PMR

IntelliPower - A fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate and caching algorithms designed to deliver both significant power savings and solid performance.

IntelliSeek - Calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption, noise, and vibration.

NoTouch ramp load technology - The recording head never touches the disk media ensuring significantly less wear to the recording head and media as well as better drive protection in transit.

Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) - Employs PMR technology to achieve even greater areal density.

StableTrac™ - The motor shaft is secured at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate tracking, during read and write operations. (2 TB models only)

Low power spin-up - WD Caviar Green drives consume less current during startup allowing lower peak loads.

Advanced power technology - Electronic components deliver best-in-class low power consumption for reduced power requirements and increased reliability.

Hard Drive Failure at 3 mos of service2010-06-273 / 5
Purchased two Western Digital 2tb SATA Green internal hard drives in March 2010. One of them just failed after 3 mos of use. Fortunately the two hard drives were in a RAID 1 configuration inside of a Synology DS209 server so no data was lost...yet. In the process of doing an RMA for the defective hard drive. Three months for a hard drive failure for a server that is not moved....ever..... is not a very good track record. Hope this model is not a lemon.
2TB!2010-05-175 / 5
Drive works like a charm, I won't need another one for 5 years I'll bet! I didn't have any trouble installing, BIOS found it, Vista liked it too. I don't notice any additional noise from my case, and it's a fairly low noise system. Not much else to say, it's a HDD.
great drive2010-05-014 / 5
The drive is great and worked as expected. My issue was that I did not understand that OEM meant no screws other mounting equipment. With the money I've spent on connectors, screws, and shipping, I would have gone with a more expensive drive that came with all the materials I needed to install it.
Drive Dead Within 9 Months - JUNK2010-04-291 / 5
The drive was installed in a PC running Windows 7 beta, then Windows 7 full version. The PC was used as a media computer, playing movies and TV shows through Windows Media Center, and Apple TV. As stated in the title of this review, the drive failed within 9 months. The good news is the drive failure warning kicked in and allowed me to move the data to another drive. This will be my last Western Digital purchase. I've had nothing but problems over the years with their drives. The low price of this drive prompted me to give WD another chance. Never again. My future HD purchases will be Seagate.
Be careful, you might receive a re-branded drive...2010-04-213 / 5
So, I received my drive today and it is called "White Label". It looks like the exact same drive with the WD sticker replaced by another brand (MediaMax) sticker. Odds are, the drive was purchased in bulk, as overstock, and/or for a pre-built system. It may not have been meant for individual sale. I am a little more than miffed by this, because I purchased a Western Digital drive. Is the drive the same? Maybe. Are the specs the same? Yes. Is the warranty the same? NOPE!!! The advertised warranty is 3 years. The warranty listed on the packing slip is 1 year. Not only that, but the packaging was a joke. I've been building and repairing PC's professionally for 15 years and have NEVER seen a brand new HDD (or even a used one) packed so poorly. I think that I am lucky though, because mine was packed better than what I've read in other reviews. I'm hoping this drive works well, but we'll see...I'll post more after I've had it for awhile.
