Collection of episodes of the animated television program about the adventures of Philip Fry, a pizza guy who was accidentally frozen in 1999 only to be defrosted in 2999.
    Genre: Television
    Rating: NR
    Release Date: 15-AUG-2006
    Media Type: DVD

Matt Groening's second season of the 31st century sci-fi sitcom Futurama maintained the high scripting standards of the first and also well brought improved digital animation. Couch potato Fry now seems thoroughly reconciled to his new existence, transported 10 centuries hence to "New New York" and working for Professor Farmsworth's delivery service. He's surrounded by a cast of freaks, including the bitchily cute Amy (with whom he has a romantic brush) and Hermes, the West Indian bureaucrat. Most sympathetic is the one-eyed Leela (voiced by Katey Segal). Like Lisa Simpson, she is brilliant but unappreciated; she finds solace in her pet Nibbler, a tiny creature with a voracious, carnivorous appetite. By contrast, Bender, the robot, is programmed with every human vice, a sort of metal Homer Simpson with a malevolent streak.

In one of the best episodes, Bender is given a "feelings" chip in order to empathize with Leela after he flushes Nibbler down the toilet. Elsewhere, Fry falls in love with a mermaid when the team discover the lost city of Atlanta, Fry and Bender end up going to war after they join the army to get a discount on gum, and John Goodman guest stars as Santa Claus, an eight-foot gun-toting robot. Brimful with blink-and-you'll-miss-them hip jokes (such as the sign for the Taco Bellevue hospital) and political and pop satire, Futurama isn't a stern warning of things to come but rather, as the makers put it, "a brilliant, hilarious reflection of our own materially (ridiculously) overdeveloped but morally underdeveloped society." --David Stubbs

    Hail Atlanta2010-05-125 / 5
The only reason I got this is because my favorite singer Donovan (Leitch) appears on the "Deep South" episode. His 1969 song "Atlantis" is first heard in its original version as a teaser, then Donovan (in an animated version of himself) does a parody in the Lost City of Atlanta "Knowing her fate the others ran away... Hank Aaron, Ted Turner, Jeff Foxworthy, the guy who invented Coca Cola, the magician? (Who?)and the other so called gods. And Jane Fonda was there". Then at the end he says "Hail Atlanta!"
Futurama is the most underrated show!2010-04-225 / 5
Futurama is one of the most underrated shows ever. Matt Groening and Company's genius is at work again. While it may lack the laugh out loud (lol for all you kiddos) style of the Simpsons, Futurama's sly wisecracks and dry humor rule the day. Enjoy!
    Gloriously funny2009-11-165 / 5
I see season 2 of Futurama as the time that the show stopped being The Simpsons in Space and began to eclipse Matt Groening's more popular creation. While the first season was a terrific start, the second season really gets to play around with the characters and the bizarre universe that has been established. We see more out of Zoidberg and Farnsworth, and Bender continues to steal the show.

Among the highlights of season 2 is Richard Nixon's return to politics as he runs for President of Earth using Bender's pawned body, a maniacal Santa Claus robot that goes on an annual Xmas killing spree, Fry and Bender joining the military to get a discount on chewing gum only to wind up in a real war, and the first "What-If?" episode known as the Anthology of Interest. A lot of the comedy that is established ehre would become popular enough to warrant its return in later seasons.

The only real criticism I have about these disks is that the DVDs do not have a "Play All" option on the menu. Still, that's not enough to make me drop its rating - the show is as funny as ever, and season 2 is the point where it became the best show on television.
    Best of the Futurama seasons2009-06-025 / 5
the first season of futurama was pretty good but this one is the best of the seasons. this season has some great episodes like Head in the Polls where Nixon takes benders body and runs for president of earth. other good episode include the deep south and war is the H-word one episode that is not very funny is the honking but all the other episodes make up for it. the box set has 19 episodes and the episodes are still good before the quality declined in the third and fourth season.
Crass humor; spiced with adult sarcasm2009-01-292 / 5
This is a set of funny cartoons, albeit, crass, sarcastic, base at times, and sometimes outright vulgar, but never the less, entertaining, if one can get past the afronting style the writers for this show use. I would not recommend this for children.
